"Our mission is to provide utility operations personnel with an intuitive map-based collaborative decision support platform that distributes critical business information anywhere and whenever it is needed." The FAST System (Field Automation for Sanitation Trucks) is an exciting new application for managing sewer maintenance work orders and the associated facilities data and deploying that data to the field. When engineers and operators at Georgia Power Corporation (GPC) need maps or reports about their electrical distribution network, they turn to the Distribution Viewer As is the case with most energy companies today, FirstEnergy Corp of Akron, Ohio, looks at operational efficiency as the key to financial performance improvements and shareholder profit. NaviGate Tour ReportsOne of the most powerful features in the NaviGate application framework is the ability to generate reports on information contained in the databases. Every object in a map has at least one report available on it, and some layers have dozens of special-purpose reports available. Many reports are basic, reflecting nothing more than the data record that describes the object on the map. Other reports are quite complex, and include many links to other reports or to the map. Most reports are available both as HTML (text, on-screen) reports and as downloadable Excel spreadsheets. Reports are available via a variety of screen interfaces. Users can simply double-click on an object to obtain a report, or may access one of several report interfaces. In the example shown below, a user has clicked on an object (in this case, a parcel) and brought up several different reports and report interfaces for that object.
Reports can also have more structure and intelligence, as shown in the following example from the Operations Visualization System. In the series of screens shown below, the user navigated from a high-level summary of service area status, down to more detail about a single service area (by clicking on the Detail Report icon), and finally to a spreadsheet showing all the outstanding trouble calls (by clicking on the Excel Spreadsheet icon).
Reports can be invoked from a hyperlink in the web Browser, as shown above, or from a pop-up menu or report button in the map window itself. Important reports are also available by double-clicking on the object. ![]() The NaviGate Application Framework is a suite of web-based products designed to promote information integration, increase self service, eliminate paper work, and improve field service for utilities.
