PacifiCorp Operations Visualization SystemThe Operations Visualization System (OVS) was first deployed in 1999 for PacifiCorp, a seven-state electric utility with more than 1.5 million customers and more than 2.5 million service connections. It is used primarily to view the status and causes of power outages within the company's service area. Using interactive maps and reports, operations staff can quickly determine where response teams are needed most critically. The system displays information about service areas, electric facilities, customers, and trouble calls. It also indicates the operational status of a service area in terms of the number of outstanding trouble calls. In the sample screen shown below, the crosshatched areas represent PacifiCorp service areas. Colors provide a quick visual indicator of the status of the areas. The color coding is dynamically updated as trouble calls are reported and corrected.
